Full Text

Nov. 19. Being at last told by the best Authority, that Irreligion, Ill-nature, Gaming and Extravagance, abound in an uncommon Degree, it is not to be doubted but that some effectual Measures will be taken to check this profligate Spirit; and that in Order to revive Religion in particular, without which neither Societies nor private Families can be kept in Order, Care will be taken to render the Occasions and Temptations to Perjury less frequent than they are at present, by enabling People to carry on Trade without being daily necessitated to call GOD to witness the Truth of what they are frequently ignorant of, and sometimes know to be false. This is absolutely necessary, to preserve a due Awe and Reverence of the Omniscent Being, as it can answer no other End to subject Men to an Appeal to the Great Searcher of Hearts, in such trifling Concerns as need not be mentioned here, since every Body knows how the Case stands.
