Full Text
Senator Clemens of Alabama, in the fore part of the session, made some unjust remarks in reference to the condition of Northern factory operatives, which have caused a good many hard hits at him from the class he so little understood. The Senator, however, takes their retort in good part, and we presume, from what he has now learned of their capacity, will not again offend.
The operatives of the Utica Globe Mills, having organized a Library Association, sent on to the Senator from Alabama, a notice of the enterprise, in which there were pointed allusions to his previous remarks. In return, he has forwarded to each member of the committee, a valuable book. The Gazette states that this happens to be the first donation to the Library. Albany Register.
