Why They "Holler."
There is really no reason for the journalistic advocates of land-grabbing to "holler" now that Sparks is no longer commissioner of the general land office; they are not yet "out of the woods."-Buffalo Echo.
The term "land-grabber" is used by the Echo to designate all who have endeavored to acquire title to government land, and "journalistic advocates of land-grabbing" is doubtless meant to include The Sun and all papers which advocate the rights of settlers. This paper is not to be deterred from denouncing usurpations and impositions by the application of such terms, and we therefore exposed and denounced the methods of Commissioner Sparks, although positively assured by the land officials, special agents and the land organs, that opposition was useless, as Mr. Sparks was there to stay. They also told us that Special Agent George was there to stay, and they now say that Register Wilson cannot be removed. Now that Mr. Sparks has gone and Colonel George has been ignominiously kicked out by their superiors on the alleged ground of disregard of law and the rights of settlers, we are told not to "holler," for the same course will be pursued by their successors. All that we have got to say is that if the successors of Mr. Sparks follow in his footsteps they will follow him out of office, and very quickly, for the American public has had enough of Mr. Sparks' policy, and the press throughout the country has sustained Secretary Lamar and the president in rebuking the recusant official. This is why the settlers of Wyoming "holler;" and they have good reason to holler.-Cheyenne Sun.
