Teachers' Institute.—We publish the proceedings of the Teachers' Institute recently held in Murphys. We are informed by those who attended, that a very pleasant and agreeable time was had. The Institute was in session three days, the time being principally occupied by lectures, essays and discussions upon the branches of study in the public schools. An essay upon "The Theory and Practice of Teaching," by Miss Louttit, of our town, is very highly spoken of. The denunciatory resolutions in relation to private schools, adopted by the Institute, are, in our opinion, harsh, unkind and entirely uncalled for. The legitimate duties of those employed to teach in the public schools, if properly attended to, are arduous enough to keep them constantly employed without interference in matters beyond their jurisdiction.
