The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says:
Taking shape just below the Cushman street bridge on the north banks of the Chena river is the ice castle which will be the scene of the crowning of Miss Alaska during the coming Carnival. Ted Lambert, noted Alaskan artist, is lending his time and talent to the job of making the castle one of beauty.
Work was started on the castle recently, and by noon today the general outline was showing up. The structure will be approximately 18 by 30 feet in area, and 15 feet high at the center. Two towers, each 12 feet in height, will be constructed at either end of the front of the castle.
Steps will lead down from the castle to a courtyard that will be laid out at the edge of the ice rink. Flanking the courtyard will be several trees to add a finished atmosphere to the arrangement.
Mr. Lambert plans to light the castle with an indirect lighting system to give the entire spot an aura of beauty for the coronation ceremony.
Inside appointments will be arranged for the Queen and her attendants.
About 10 tons of ice have already been used in the foundation work on the castle and the finished structure will take at least 80 tons. Cold or warm, the work will continue under Mr. Lambert's direction—most of it actually done by the artist—until the castle is finished.
Pietro Vigna, ice sculptor and architect, who has contributed several beautiful thrones for previous carnivals, is spending most of his time out of town this winter and is unable to help with the work. Mr. Vigna's work and efforts in the past will long be remembered for their beauty and unique features.
