As some Courts can no more leave off Tricking, than a Cat can Mousing, what they write from Warsaw is worth remarking: The Evening before the Separation of the Diet, when the Marshal said 50,000 Crowns had been sent by a Foreign Court to corrupt some of the Nuncios, and frustrate the Success of that Meeting; it was proposed and agreed to, that every Man should purge himself by Oath; The Marshal swore first, but some others in wearing after him, used this Explanation: "That they had not suffered themselves to be seduced so far as to receive Money, for things prejudicial to the Republick." Perhaps they did not think that prejudicial to the Republick, which the King and his Ministers might think would prove the Destruction of it.
