The Roanoke Rapids Fire Department, with its quota of 25 men filled, is at full strength and ready to move into the new quarters at the Municipal Building as soon as that building is completed.
The three fire trucks will have ample room in the department room downstairs. The new fire truck is being used now in drills but has not been put into service at a fire.
Six men on the force are from the South Ward. They are Nozzle Men E. S. Hasty, T. L. Adkins and W. A. Wright and Hose Men J. W. Brown, Harold Pepper and A. J. Lynch.
The rest of the Department members are J. A. Lipscomb, Chief, C. L. Smith, assistant chief, R. L. Saunders, Captain, D. C. Clark, Lieutenant, Rufus Britton, Secretary and Treasurer, J. J. Ingram, Driver, and Pumper Men R. P. Smith, Shelton Ivey, Robert Goodfellow, Charlie Harlow; Ladder Men A. W. Wright, B. G. Whitby, Godwin Lane, W. E. Edwards; Hydrant Man Bruce Camp; Nozzle Men J. C. Matthews, C. L. Bristow; Hose Men Tom Harlow, H. B. Duke.
The majority of these men are well trained, several of them having attended the State Fire College for several terms. They receive no compensation for their services and deserve the continued thanks and cooperation of the community.
