Full Text

Music in the Air.

Last Saturday evening the Mechanics Band occupied the new band stand on the public square for the first time. They were greeted by an immense concourse of people, who lined the streets on the sides of the square.

This was an expression, in the strongest terms, of the appreciation of the public for the splendid effort made to furnish a Saturday evening general serenade free. The act is a most commendable one and entitles the band boys to the best support of the people. Their playing on this occasion elicited the warmest applause from those who heard it. Later in the evening they gave several private serenades to those who had so generously rendered services in presenting the play of "East Lynne."
