Full Text
For some time there has been considerable talk in regard to the stewardship of the poor farm. Mr. Asa Butman has held that position for many years, and he has not given the best of satisfaction. In fact he has made himself very unpopular in that connection, and we think not without cause. He has done several things that savor of suspicion, and he has on several occasions exposed himself to censure. Of late the opposition to Mr. Butman has grown so strong that petitions have been circulated, asking that ex-Supervisor Robinson, of Andalusia, succeed him as steward of the poor farm. Mr. Robertson is well qualified to fill the position, and as a change would be very acceptable to the people of the county, we see no reason why Mr. Robertson should not be selected. This subject will probably be brought before the supervisors today, and the power of removing or retaining Mr. Butman is in their hands. What they will do in regard to the matter is uncertain, but from what a number of supervisors have said, the Argus thinks he will be rejected from the position he now holds.
