Methodist Unity Discussed By Pres. King

By REV. J. H. BRIDGES

The Interdenominational Ministers Alliance met Tuesday at the Central Methodist Episcopal church, the Rev. J. A. Baxter, pastor. Rev. M. Hurley presided while Rev. J. A. Green recorded the proceedings.

Devotional services, which were conducted by the Rev. J. T. Singletary and which included prayer, the reading of Phil. 4:1-8, were featured by the rendition of two selections, "Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone" and "Saved Saved" by Miss Juanita Russell, the talented contralto singer. Miss Russell who was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. B. Washington, sang "An Evening Prayer" at the close of the meeting. The alliance expressed itself as grateful for the service of these two artists.

Following devotionals, Dr. Willis J. King, president of Gammon Theological Seminary, delivered an interesting address on "Methodist Unification." The talk was comprehensive, giving the whole plan as it is being worked out in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and the Protestant Episcopal Church on a basis of fairness, equality and Christian brotherhood to all sectional and racial groups within the three denominations.

At the close of the address, Dr. King answered promptly, and his hearers thought satisfactorily several vital questions which were asked by the floor. A vote of thanks was extended him for his informative discussion of one of the most talked-of church moves in the country at this time.

The alliance, through its treasurer, Rev. N. J. Colley, contributed five dollars toward the registration fees for worthy students at Gammon.

Rev. R. B. Hendricks, pastor of Franklin Memorial A. M. E. Zion church announced and invited the alliance to attend the revival at his church this week, many promising to attend.

Rev. M. L. Wiggins, pastor of the Linden Avenue C. M. E. church, was introduced to the group. After a short talk, he was voted a membership in the alliance.

In view of the opening of Gammon next Tuesday, October first and upon an invitation of President King to attend the ceremonies, the alliance voted to hold its next week's session at the seminary next Tuesday.
