Convening last Monday morning for the spring term, the Circuit Court of the 24th. Judicial Circuit, so far has had an uneventful week, little business coming up for attention and disposal.
The court was called Monday morning at 10 o'clock and jurors were summonsed to appear at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning.
Judge Fred'L. Stringer charged the jury which had been selected and their labors were begun. The grand jury was composed of E. W. Snow, foreman, E. B. Morton Clerk, and the following named members: J. C. McCollum, H. C. Powers. G. A. Plummer, S. W. Aiken, C. M. Barnett. C. S. Mountain, Paul Svihra, E. M. Skinner, Clyde King, Geo. Thomas, C. O. Folkes, G. W. Fogg. Oren L. Ansley, J. W. Smith, R. C. Lyons and E. C. Wernicke. The petit jury is composed of J. A. Marsh, H. L. Aiken, D. G. Monden, B. J. Gant, A. K. Skinner, C. Mayo Ansley, B. B. McCall, R. C. Hice, G. W. Brittle, W. D. McKinney, Paul Kazee, J. A. Jennings. H. F. Griffin, John LeRoy and N. P. Lynch.
Excused from service were L. C. Lee. Jr., B. H. Robison and P. A. Conner.
In their work as grand jurors indictments were returned against Eddie Martin, white, charged with the larceny of an automobile: L. C. Brown, negro, charged with the larceny of an automobile; Katherine Edwards, negro, charged with assault with intent to murder; W. T. Widener. white, charged with the larceny of an automobile, and Fred Jennings, white, charged with criminal trespass. None of these will be tried at this term, according to Judge Fred L. Stringer.
In the case of Shag Butler, charged with assault with intent to murder. the defendant was arraigned Tuesday morning and pled guilty. Sentence is to be imposed later. during the session.
According to Judge Stringer the court will be in session for the remainder of the present week, only "carried over" cases being disposed of.
The petit jury was discharged this morning by Judge Stringer. but the grand jury still remains in session, probably for another day.
