When they came to the house they enquired what they could have dressed for dinner, and on the landlord's mentioning fowls, bacon, eggs, or ducks, they asked him whether it was possible to procure a hare: He said, he believed he could, and accordingly did.
While the hare was at the fire—two of these informers went to a neighbouring Justice of the Peace (who was a friend of the landlord's) and made the information against the publican: The Justice privately sent him word of it, on which he charged 5s. in his bill, and told them he would not afford it a farthing cheaper; that if they would have been contented with fowl, &c. the bill would not have amounted to so much; but that as they insisted on a hare, he had provided one at the expence of 5s. which he insisted should be paid him before they left the house, which was, after great resistance, and threatening to carry them before a Justice of the Peace, complied with.
