To Wage Intensive War On Predators

Coyotes and mountain lions in Montana will be on the receiving end of an intensive campaign to be waged this year for the safety of young livestock, according to Paul Raftery, secretary of the state livestock commission. Approximately 30 men will cover Montana's mountains and valleys throughout the year, trapping, shooting and poisoning predators.

To be carried on by the livestock commission, the works progress administration and the federal biological survey, the battle will be financed by a $33,000 federal allocation and a $10,000 state appropriation, Raftery said. Previously, about 21 men have been employed to hunt the predators on a year-around basis.
