The duly elected delegates of the Democratic and anti-Know-nothings of this county, in accordance with public notice, met in convention at the Court House, in Rockville, Montgomery county, Md., on the 9th of July, 1859, and was organized by calling Thos. Connelly, Esq., to the Chair, and appointing Wm. T. Jones, Secretary.
On motion, Messrs. R. P. Dunlop, Wm. O. Sellman, and E. P. Duval, were, by ballot, elected delegates to represent this county at the Bladensburg Congressional Convention, on the 27th inst.: and Messrs. O. S. Willson, J. D. Poole, and Wm. H. Farrer, at the Frederick State Convention, on the 20th instant.
On motion, the delegates to each convention were empowered to appoint substitutes in case of inability to attend.
Wm. V. Bouic, Esq., stated that whatever differences of opinion there might have been on matters relating to the business affairs before the convention, he was sure there was but one in regard to the following resolution, which he then offered:
Resolved, by the Representatives of the Democracy of Montgomery County, Md., That the Sage of Wheatland, now at the head of this nation, and the chosen organ of the Democratic party, well deserves our commendation for his patriotic devotion to the best interests of the country; that his course so far has exhibited wisdom, integrity and strict adherence to the Democratic land-marks; and his management of our national affairs, both at home and abroad, commands our cordial approbation, and is entitled to the support of all good citizens.
Which was unanimously and enthusiastically adopted.
The Convention then adjourned, sine die.
