A distressing accident, and little reconcilable to the views of man, occurred in Buckingham on the 17th inst. which forcibly calls to mind the uncertainty of life, in the bloom of health. Joseph Kirk, in the 26th year of his age, came to an untimely end, while in the act of confining a cow in a corner of the fence by means of a rail, for the purpose of rendering some relief to a diseased foot. The cow in order to free herself, made a violent effort against the rail, which he held at one end—knocked him down, and fractured his skull a little below the left ear. No other visible marks of injury were received. The blood gushed from his ear and nose—he was immediately taken into the house, bled, and every means used for his relief; means, however, were ineffectual—he was only heard to say, "O dear!" after the fatal accident. In about 2 hours he breathed no more.
His life and conversation were harmless, and spoke the purity of his intentions.—His remains were interred in Friends' burying ground at Wrightstown—leaving a disconsolate widow with two infant babes, and numerous relations and acquaintances, to lament his untimely end.
