THE MT. VERNON MURDER

The trial of William S. Bergin, for the murder and deliberately shooting in the head, and killing instantly, on the 15th of June last, Thomas J. McBride, was concluded at Mt. Vernon on Saturday last, the jury bringing in a verdict of murder in the first degree.

Col. Cooper made the concluding argument for the State, closing with an able appeal to the jury for justice to the aged father, the bereaved wife and helpless babe. Judge Adams delivered the charge, and at 3:25 p. m., the case was given to the jury, and they came in with a verdict at 4:15.

Gen. Morgan, counsel for the prisoner made a motion for setting aside the verdict, which will be argued to-day, Thursday.
