Full Text

General Harrison. --The Cleveland (Ohio) Herald--not, it seems, particularly friendly heretofore, to Gen. Harrison's pretensions to the Presidency--has the following paragraph in reference to the late election in Ohio :

"The fact is, the name of Gen. Harrison was in no way connected with the late election ; and, if things remain as they now are, he must carry the State by an overwhelming majority. We have been forced to this conclusion, by the irresistible evidence daily presented; and contrary, too, to our own feelings and predilections."--Civ.

Gen. Harrison having been nominated by Pennsylvania, and Maryland as their candidate for the next Presidency, demands the most mature deliberation of the opponents of Mr. Van Buren throughout Virginia particularly. So far as we have been able to ascertain the views of the opposition in this quarter, they are decidedly opposed to the nomination of Judge White, and will of course pay no regard to it; nor will they support any ticket which may be presented in his favor for their votes. Under these circumstances, and our favourite being out of the question, and the movements announced above on the part of Maryland and Pennsylvania, induce us to say, that we will give our feeble support to Gen. William H. Harrison--though Judge White may be continued in the candidacy.

We, therefore, propose, as requested, that the friends of General Harrison, throughout the state, take up the question, and adopt such preparatory measures as will lead to a concentration of their force upon him as their candidate.
We know that Gen. Harrison has many and warm friends in Eastern Virginia, and we think, that they may rest perfectly satisfied, that they will be aided by every National Whig in the Western section.
