Operations of the French Armies.

H. O. Braunau, Oct. 31, 1805.

Several Russian deserters have come in; one of them a sergeant-major. He has been examined; and says that the Russian army are differently disposed towards the French from what they were in the last war; that the prisoners who had come back from France were highly pleased with that country; that there had been six of them in his company, who at their departure from Poland, were sent to a greater distance; that if all the men returned from France had been left in the regiments, there was no doubt but that they would all have deserted; that the Russians were displeased at fighting for the Germans, whom they do not like, and that they had a high opinion of French bravery. -- He was asked if they liked the Emperor Alexander. -- He replied that they were too miserable to have much attachment to him; that the soldiers liked the Emperor Paul better, but that the nobility preferred the Emperor Alexander; that the Russians, in general, were pleased to go from home, because they lived better, and were better paid; that they all wished not to return to Russia, and that they would prefer settling in other climates, to returning under the rod of a severe government; that they knew the Austrians had lost all their battles, and did nothing but lament. It should be recollected that this is only the information of a deserter.

Prince Murat has fallen in with 6000 of the rear guard of the Austrians. To see, and to charge, are the same thing with his cavalry. After a smart rencontre, the darkness of the night favored the escape of the enemy through the woods; and only 500 prisoners were taken. In this action a French Quartermaster, of the 8th dragoons had his hand shot off. -- I regret, said he to Prince Murat, my hand because it can no longer serve our brave Emperor. -- Bonaparte on hearing this said, I there recognize the sentiments of the 8th. -- Let this Quartermaster have a profitable place, suitable to his condition, in the palace of Versailles. The inhabitants of Braunau having taken part of the magazines left by the Russians, were ordered by Proclamation to return them. -- The bread, flour, oats, &c. were immediately distributed among our troops, of which they were in great need.

When Marshal Bernadotte reached Salzburg the enemy retreated on the roads to Corinthia and Wels. At Hallein a regiment disputed the village, but were obliged to retreat to Cologne; where Bernadotte hoped Gen. Kellermann (the younger) would arrive in season to cut off its retreat, and take it.

The German Emperor has been at Wels, where he has learned the disasters of his army, and the clamors of his subjects against the robbery and pillage of the Russians; and their wishes for the arrival of the French to deliver them from these singular allies.

Gen. Davoust remains between Ried and Haag. All the other divisions are making a grand movement; but the weather is frightful; the snow is 6 inches deep, and the roads are detestable.

The Elector of Bavaria has arrived at his capital, Munich.

The Vienna mails have been intercepted. -- They had begun to hear of their army disasters; which had spread great consternation. The city was threatened with a famine, notwithstanding the harvest has been abundant. Their depreciated paper money has occasioned this artificial scarcity.

Every body considers the English as the authors of the war, and that the Russian and Austrian Emperors are their dupes: -- They add, there will be no peace while George the Third breathes; and they wish for the reign of the Prince of Wales, when there will be an end of the oligarchs, who in all countries are egotists, and indifferent to the calamities of the world.

From DUTCH Sources.

GERMANY,

AUGSBURG, OCT. 26:

Gen. Mack has arrived here on parole, and is the bearer of proposals for Peace, from the Emperor Napoleon to our Emperor. -- But they will not be attended to, unless highly honorable to Austria.

Oct. 27. A heavy cannonade has been heard towards Tyrol. No doubt the French are forcing the passes through the mountains.

There has been an action on the Inn.

The Russians have retreated to Wels, there to wait for reinforcements.

A few days since, two companies of the Imperial foot guards marched to the Electoral Palace, escorting standards and colors taken from the enemy, and presented the same to the Emperor in the most solemn manner.

When the Emperor Napoleon came to the destroyed part of the bridge across the Danube, at Donawert, he caused boards to be laid across, and himself led over first. -- He then cried out, Come on my grenadiers; and every one hastened to follow.

OCT. 28.

The passage of hostile troops through the Prussian Territory has occasioned some active negotiations: -- But no one doubts that the most perfect understanding is preserved between France and the Court of Berlin.

HANAU, OCT. 29.

Before Gen. Mack quitted Swabia, he had three audiences of the Emperor Napoleon; and at his departure bore two letters in the hand writing of Bonaparte to the German Emperor. Mack is the only Austrian officer on parole who has been allowed to travel to Austria through Bavaria.

BAVARIA, OCT. 24, 1805. An action has taken place between the Russians and Bavarians near Oetting.

PRUSSIA.

BERLIN, OCT. 26.

Last night Marshal Duroc received a courier, who is supposed to have brought the answer of the Emperor Napoleon to the declarations of our Court, on the subject of the violations of our neutrality. This courier has occasioned a general curiosity.
