IS IT ANY USE TO CON-TEND FOR RIGHTS?
Colored Americans are the only race, responsible members of which are in favor of submitting to discrimination on the claim that their race "always will be discriminated against."
The Jews are still contending, after over 1900 years of universal discrimination, and are winning even social rights today. The Irish at home have contended for 700 years and are winning because they will die rather than submit.
The race that says it's of no use to resist, downs itself and the world then will say, "Negroes are not worthy of equal rights; they are by nature without self-respect and have no 'guts'.
The world respects only those who resent and resist proscriptions for race.
Let us be worthy of the abolitionists, worthy of our own fathers who have died in every war to vindicate the title of their race to equal liberty, and forever resist denial of rights in our native land, however long race discrimination may continue. To submit is to deserve contempt.--Boston (Mass.) Guardian.
