Rich Placer Diggings Within Thirty Miles of Las Vegas.
For many years past it has been the firm belief that rich placer mines existed near this city. But where or how distant no one seemed to know.
Years ago it was known that the Indians obtained gold dust somewhere not far off, but they managed to carry their secret away with them. All knowledge as to where these mines were located remained wrapped in mystery until a few days ago, when Curtis H. Anderson accidentally stumbled upon the rich gold fields. He says the placers just discovered are within 30 miles of Las Vegas, but as yet he is unwilling to disclose them to the public. The earth is undoubtedly very full of the precious metal as it took but two small pans of dirt to wash out 45 cents in gold. The pans used were not the regular gold pan used by miners, but a small tin pan about the size of the common soup dish. The particles of gold were about the size of a flax seed, and had the appearance of being washed a considerable distance. Mr. Anderson has undoubtedly struck a rich thing and the near future will bring forth exciting developments.
