A. F. Ghiglione, Territorial Road Commissioner, spoke before the Chamber of Commerce yesterday noon and outlined the problems and accomplishments of the department and gave an overall picture of the road situation as he sees it.
He asserted that any new road work in this area will be in the over-all plan for a road to Fairbanks eventually. The road building extension out of Fairbanks to the westward is also part of that plan as well as any work done in between the two points.
He said he was pleased that the Chamber and other groups had decided on the Teller road as the next project and explained that the present curtailment of activity is due in a great measure to the action of the last Legislature in failing to increase the gas tax in proportion to the tax as paid in the States, as recommended to the Legislature.
Ghiglione was accompanied by Ben Stewart who assists him.
Col. H. B. Williams, commanding officer of Nome Field, explained to the Chamber that the community would soon be asked to contribute to the Air Force Aid Society fund. He said this fund was to assist families and military personnel in need of financial assistance.
Two members of Nome Field personnel will be accompanied by Mrs. Terry Jackson, representing the city, in soliciting the funds.
