We have certain accounts from Martinico, and other islands in the West Indies, That a body of French troops from Martinico, under the command of M. de Bouille, landed undiscovered on the island of St. Eustatius, and by a coup de main, made the whole British garrison, consisting of about 600 troops, prisoners of war.
Capt. David Squires, is arrived at a safe port from Hispaniola. By a gentleman from him, we have a confirmation of the glorious capture of the island of Eustatius; but he does not recollect any mention made of the island of St. Martins being also re-taken, tho' he thinks it must have submitted of course.
The booty taken at St. Eustatius, these accounts add, was very considerable, there being a great number of vessels round about the island; many warlike stores, besides a large body of regular British troops in the garrison. The day the island submitted was not ascertained.
