Disorder Spreads
In Gandhi's India
As Result of Fast

NEW DELHI, Feb 13 - (UP)

Partial paralysis of business spread today in Delhi, old section of the capital, in protest against the continued internment of Mohandas K. Gandhi, now on the fourth day of a three-weeks' fast at the Aga Khan's palace at Poona.

Principal markets, factories and mills were closed in the city. More disturbances were reported at scattered points, but it was difficult to tell whether they were connected directly with Gandhi's fast, itself a protest against his internment, or were a continuation of sporadic disorders in which Nationalists have been indulging ever since last August when mob violence led the government to intern Gandhi and other leaders as responsible.

Nationalist leaders called an all-India conference to meet here next Wednesday and Thursday under the chairmanship of Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, an eminent jurist and president of the Indian Liberal Federation to urge the government to release Gandhi unconditionally.

Well-informed quarters reported Gandhi's fast was a purely political one, designed to gain his own release and that of other Nationalists, so that they could review the events of the last six months, including the disorders for which the government holds them responsible.
