Hunters, Preparing to Answer Call of Red Gods,
Are Planning Trips to British Columbia Wilds

Hunters planning trips to the wilds of British Columbia during the forthcoming season are making their plans earlier than usual this year, according to E. B. Knight, well known guide and outfitter of Quesnel, B. C. The Cariboo District of British Columbia remains one of the few big game preserves on the North American continent which has not been affected by the advance of civilization.

Moose, caribou, mountain goat, the highly-prized silver tip grizzly, deer and other monarchs of the forest and the mountain trail are found in abundance and it is seldom indeed that a party setting out under the leadership of a competent guide fails to return from the hunt well rewarded for its efforts.

Country is situated at the foot of Quesnel Lake, some 200 miles from Ashcroft station on the main transcontinental line of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The 200 mile trip is made by automobile over the road which served the gold rush to the Cariboo Country in the early 60's. Until 1922 the Cariboo District had never been hunted or exploited except in a few isolated instances, and it is here that the big game prizes are found in their natural habitat. The main prize awaiting adventurous big game hunters in the Cariboo District is the silver tip grizzly bear. Grizzlies sometimes weigh half a ton and are exceedingly vicious, particularly when wounded.

Gus Cook of Dundee, Ill. stopped an 800 pound grizzly with the fifth shot after the beast had charged down upon him. There are few thrills (or chills) to be compared with that of meeting an infuriated grizzly and standing your ground until Mr. Bruin is put out of the way.

Trout fishermen will also find a trip to this sportsman's paradise well worth their while, for there are mountain trout, rainbow and silver trout, the last-named variety running as heavy as ten pounds; also Dolly Varden and lake trout which tip the beam as high as 30 pounds.
