About two years ago it was reported and believed, that one Boardman, an old Bachelor, with a small freehold in the county of Fermanagh, was going to be married. This report alarmed his brother and nephew who expected to fall heirs to his fortune. It is said, that the father and son conspired the death of this unfortunate man. The son, with one accomplice, went in the night to his uncle's house, and demanded admittance, which an old domestic, through terror, gave him. And such was this ruffian's rage for blood, that, without securing this domestic, he went directly into his uncle's room, denouncing his murderous intention. The uncle proposed directly to settle his freehold upon him—but no entreaty could prevail—he snapped his pistol at the old man, which missed fire, and might have given pause for reflection to a mind less depraved than his—but this only whetted his rage; he dispatched him at length after a repetition of the most inhuman blows and stabs. The murderer was, to the disgrace of justice and police of the country, suffered to be at large for a considerable time; but at length was apprehended, and convicted, on trial, at the last Enniskillen assizes. He was executed two days after.
