Dewitt Clinton, Jr. Esq. Assistant Civil Engineer, who has been employed by the War Department in examination and surveys to ascertain the practicability of opening a communication between the waters of the Connecticut river and Lake Memphremagog—also, between the Connecticut and Merrimack rivers -arrived in this town, accompanied by Col. Carrigain, the commissioner on the part of this State on Wednesday evening last. Mr. Clinton has been absent on this business about seven months, during which he has had an arduous and fatiguing personal duty to perform : Col. Carrigain has been with him about two months. We have been promised some communications respecting the country examined, which will perhaps be interesting to the public. N.H. Pat.
