MR. EDITOR,
The nomination of a candidate for Governor, by the people, has given an unusual degree of satisfaction. Perhaps at no former period have they been so unpleasantly situated. They were full of manly disapprobation of the conduct of our present Chief Magistrate, and yet feared that there might not be named a rival candidate in the support of whom, they could express that disapprobation.
They had seen the present incumbent unmindful of the duties and responsibility of his station, and indifferent to the patriotic and rational principles upon which he was elected. They had seen him descend from the elevation of Chief Magistrate, to engage in a petty compromise with a defeated and dispersed enemy of the people. They had seen him too lamentably deficient in the attributes of Chief Magistrate, and of legislation. With such impressions, the people are much gratified at the nomination of the Hon. DAVID L. MORRIL. and as far as my observation extends, they will cheerfully support it.
Mr. Morril is certainly entitled to the favourable views of Republicans. I well remember he was a member of the House of Representatives for many years immediately preceeding the last war; and that he ably, manfully, and successfully combatted the opponents, & aided the friends of the government, in those perilous times.

Main Argument
the people are gratified by the nomination of hon. david l. morril for governor as a means to express disapproval of the current chief magistrate's neglect of duties and compromise with enemies; morril deserves republican support for his past service in congress before the last war.
