Full Text

Mrs. Roxall writes from Washington to Maj. Noah:

"The Senate has adopted a rule excluding females from the floor, and (would you believe it?) I am included in the interdiction. I give the Senators fair warning now of my intentions. If they don't repeal that rule—that odious law—that Gothic mandate, I mean to appeal to the people that made them, and by the blood of the Roxalls, we shall unmake them—undo them—unfrock them and unsenator them.— What right have a set of musty old bachelors, as some of them are, and others merely led by their wives, to exclude from their carpet the Madame de Stael of the age? I have got some pickle in preparation."
