Republican Convention.
To-day we publish a call for a State Republican Convention. The call was first published in the Mt. Pleasant Observer, but by what authority we know not nor do we care. We have for our part long desired an organization of the Republican party, and also one of the American party; we further wish for a fusion of the two parties, and to that end will use all our influence.
It does appear, to us, rather premature to call a State Convention of an unorganized party, and, at such a short notice, with the intention of putting in nomination, a full ticket. We do hope the Republicans at their convention will act judiciously in the matter, and not hazard the prospect of success by hasty and prejudiced action. We do esteem their purpose of nominating premature, but hope this will be overruled by the better judgment of those present. Cedar County should be fully represented here, and should cast their votes in favor of some course of action which will secure success, as it will be certain ruin to the cause of the people to make nominations at this time.
It will be well enough for the Republicans to meet and perfect a State organization, and then adjourn to await a proper time to perfect a ticket in conjunction with the American party, in which both parties can unite. If such should be the case success will be certain, as no party, in Iowa, can resist the combined votes of the entire Anti-Nebraska party. We do sincerely hope such will be the case, and that a union will be perfected, and a union cannot be made on candidates-it must be made before nominating or never.
