Modes of Punishment in New York.

From a New York Paper.

At a court of oyer and terminer and general jail delivery, held in and for the city and county of New York, (at which the Hon. Mr. Justice Benson presided) the following persons were convicted, and yesterday received the sentences affixed to their respective names:--

Rape--Richard D. Croncher, to be imprisoned for life in the State prison to hard labour.

Burglary--Dinah, (a black,) and Hariot Munro, to be imprisoned for life in the State prison to hard labour.

Forgery--Edward W. Earl, and Michael Flinn, to be imprisoned at hard labour in the state prison for life.

Grand Larceny--John Kilpatrick, 5 years imprisonment at hard labour in the state prison;
