"Hanover, June 5.
The States of Holland have charged their ambassadors to propose to the combined powers negotiations for a peace.— Their resolution taken on the 21 ult. purports, that their high mightinesses flatter themselves, to give the most convincing proof of their desire and readiness to operate in those measures which are to be taken by the belligerent powers against the common enemy; that at the same time they will also take care not to involve themselves more than their strength will allow; that for this reason, they wish for the formation of a congress, to agree both on the measures which the future effective operations of the war may require, and to come to a right understanding with regard to the proposals and overtures that might be made by France to accomplish a termination of the war."
