Prospective Bridegroom Shoots Self After Marriage Plans Foiled

PHARR, June 20.-(Spl)-When his prospective father-in-law tore up the wedding license and refused to let him marry his daughter, Marcelino Gonzalez, 25-year-old Pharr youth, walked into the yard of his home here and fatally shot himself, officers reported today.

It was reported that Marcelino obtained a marriage license and went to the home of the girl he was going to wed. He was met by the girl's father who tore up the license and refused to let his daughter marry, officers said. Marcelino went to his home and in about three hours walked out into the yard where he was fatally shot.

Following an inquest, Justice of the Peace R. L. Savage returned a verdict of suicide.

Funeral services were scheduled to be held at 4 o'clock this afternoon from the Pharr Mexican Methodist church with the Rev. Eduardo Lujan officiating. Interment was to be in the Pharr cemetery under the direction of Kreidler funeral home.
