THE Editor of this paper being appointed printer of the laws of the United States, for this state. hopes the form in which they are done, will meet the approbation of his patrons, and prove an inducement for a handsome addition to his present number.
The following extract of a letter to the Editor from the Secretary of State, will sufficiently explain his motive in adopting this mode of publishing the laws :
" To render the publication in the news-papers more useful, by providing for the preservation of the laws, in a convenient form, I have determined on the mode which the enclosed paper exhibits. By devoting one half sheet weekly to the publication of the laws, disposed in octavo pages, each of your subscribers will, with the current news, receive a complete copy of the laws of the United States, in a form to be folded in a pamphlet, unmixed with any other matter, by their separating the half sheets of the laws from the other half sheets of your news-papers."
To preserve the original intention of the Providence Journal. by making it a " useful and entertaining compendium of news, politics and literature," a supplement will be given whenever a press of interesting intelligence shall seem to require it.
