THE GAZETTE.
MARTINSBURG, July 3, 1823.

This number (26) completes the first half year of our Editorial duties. Diligent exertion has been used by the Editor, to make his paper respectable in its exterior. He has endeavoured to feast the appetites of its patrons; while at the same time, he would remind them, that in order to continue so to do, it is essentially necessary for them to pay some attention to the terms of the paper. A second half year of subscription now becomes due. A few, a very few indeed, have paid little or no attention whatever to them. Having certain engagements to meet, he hopes a little punctuality will be observed—his engagements cannot be met, so long as the 'pecuniary depletion, or vulgar emptiness of purse remains.'
