Charles E. Williams, associate professor of law at Florida A and M University college of law, was awarded the SJ.D. degree (doctorate of juridicial science degree) from Georgetown University in Washington, D. C., on June 6, according to an announcement by A and M President George W. Gore, Jr.
Atty. Williams has been a member of the A and M college of law faculty since September, 1954.
On May 23, he completed final requirements for the doctor of juridicial science degree, and, accordingly, received same from Georgetown U. on June 6. Williams is the first Negro to receive this degree in Georgetown's 168 year history, and the second successful candidate for the degree at Georgetown in the past 14 years.
He also holds the A. B. and LL.B. degrees from Howard University and the LL.M. degree from Georgetown University. Williams is a native of Wilmington, Delaware, and a member of the District of Columbia Bar. Reliable reports indicate that Atty. Williams is the fourth Negro to receive this degree from any school in the United States.
