NEW YORK, March 17.-(P)-The Committee to Defend America by Aiding the Allies, in a statement outlining a new basic policy, said tonight it would support whatever American government measures were necessary "to insure prompt delivery of war materials to the Allies."
Appealing for "immediate and adequate appropriations under the lend-lease act," the committee said these measures included:
"Repair of Allied naval vessels in American waters; supplying to the Allies of all possible merchant tonnage; transfer to the Allies of additional destroyers and other naval craft; permission to the Allies to organize convoys in American ports; convoy of ships with American naval vessels if need be."
"Our slogan will be 'Deliver the goods to Britain now,'" the statement said.
Its new program called also for "congressional revision of legislation in order to permit the recruiting of Americans who wish to serve voluntarily in the armed or civilian forces of those nations whose defense is necessary for American security."
The committee also advocated:
"Freezing of all foreign assets in the United States under the license system to prevent further withdrawal of Axis balances and to control Nazi activities in the Western Hemisphere.
"A firm policy in the Pacific, including: Increase of American naval strength in the Far East; increased aid to China; extension of embargoes on war materials to Japan; clear indication of our determination to prevent the conquest of Singapore and the Dutch East Indies; opening by the United States and Great Britain of Far Eastern naval bases to each other's fleets, and a clear naval understanding between the two countries.
"Strenuous efforts to combat Nazi and totalitarian propaganda in the Americas with care to preserve civil liberties and the good neighbor policy."
