Long summer afternoons of just eatin', sleepin', fishin', and loafin' are all things of the past now for the younger citizens of Mount Clemens, for whom school bells and books can mean only one obvious thing; it's school again!

Classes begin at 8 a. m. at Mount Clemens high school, and at 9 o'clock at the elementary school. An enrollment slightly decreased from that of last year is expected by school officials, who said today many students had dropped out of school this year for jobs in defense industries or service in the Armed Forces. Approximately 1500 students were enrolled in the high school last year.

The high school is still short one teacher, an instructor in physical education for men, Supt. Fast revealed today, although he anticipates the position will be filled shortly.

Classes will begin Thursday, September 9, at St. Mary's parochial school, 101 Market street, at 8:45, preceded by Mass at 8:15.

Sister Rose Agatha is principal of the school again this year.

Registrations are now open for the first grade only. Father Leo J. Roberge revealed today, and he said the enrollment in the high school alone was more than 300. "We're so overcrowded, we cannot take any more registrations," he said.
