Antiquities in Tarragona, Spain.—A recent number of the New York Commercial, contains an extract of a letter from an American gentleman, dated April 27th, making mention of the discovery of various Roman antiquities in Tarragona. Amongst these, is noticed an entire piece of Mosaic-work found by some workmen whilst digging, developing when cleansed, a head of Medusa, with a rich border of Mosaic, representing birds, beasts, &c., and the figure of a Roman warrior taking leave of his "lady-love," before going to battle. These are the only two discoveries they will show, as they expect the Queen on a visit and she is to see them first; but the workmen have dug in several places, and every where with success. This is a great discovery and was not at the time, the letter was written, known out of Tarragona; word, however, was to be sent to England and other places, as enough had been ascertained to prove clearly that this was formerly a residence of the Roman Emperors, some 2000 years ago. Coins of the Romans are now and then found, but the Spaniards are becoming so jealous of their discoveries, when any foreigners are on the ground, that they are well watched by the soldiers, and have to be very cautious what they do.
