MANY GOVERNORS WILL BE HERE

Will Come From Colorado Springs to Confer on the Midland Trail.

TO DISCUSS THE DIVERSION

(By DEL S. COBB, Staff Correspondent.)

Denver, Aug. 22.—Governor Ammons has been a busy man the past few days completing arrangements for entertaining the governors who come to Colorado Springs Aug. 25. From the best information he now has there will be about fifty chief executives present, forty-five of whom already have advised Governor Ammons they were coming.

Most of the governors will remain in the state several days after the convention adjourns in order to investigate the proposed ocean-to-ocean auto highway planned by the Indiana Automobile Manufacturers' association. Quite a number of them will attend the meeting of the Midland Trail at Grand Junction, Aug. 29 and 30.

Those who will go to the western slope will be the western governors who are deeply interested in the proposed auto route. At the Springs meeting especial efforts will be made to interest the governors of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Wyoming in the road and representatives of the various proposed trails will be present to present their claims. In this way it is said the governors can be fully advised as to what is the situation and the requirements necessary to put the various routes in condition. The stand to be taken by the governors will be awaited with keen interest by all those interested in the construction of the proposed transcontinental auto highway across the country from the extreme east to the extreme west, in which the Indiana automobile manufacturers assert they will provide the $10,000,000 to construct.

In the face of attempts being made to divert the original route (the Midland trail) to the north the situation becomes more interesting and the stand to be taken by the governors' conference naturally will be important especially to the people of Colorado.
