ATTEMPTED MURDER IN A BROADWAY CONCERT SALOON.—On Thursday night last James F. Norman, a sailor, about 35 years of age, went into the Concert Saloon, No. 41 Broadway, and shot Josephine Crooks with intent to take her life. It appeared that Norman had become acquainted with one of the girls, named Kate White, who promised to marry him, and on the strength of that promise received from him the sum of $50, with which to purchase household furniture Kate "cleared out" so that he could not find her; and knowing that Josephine was acquainted with Kate, he was determined to kill one of the two. The ball from the pistol entered on the left side of the abdomen and traversed the front of the body, lodging in the right side. Josephine was carried to the hospital, where the ball was extracted, and the patient is now doing well. Norman gave himself up, asserted his sorrow that he had not blown out her brains, as he had designed to kill her. He was taken to the 4th Ward station house, where he raved like a maniac, and claimed to be a relative of the leading dignitaries of the land. He was taken before Justice Osborne and committed to await the result of the injury of Josephine Crooks. At last accounts she was in a fair way
