Evening Post of the 27th of February
The Gloucester Journal of Saturday last has the fol-
lowing extract of a letter from a gentleman of distinction
in London to his friend in Gloucester. dated Feb. 16,
" Iam now to inform you, what perhaps may be new
to you at such a distance ; the King of Prussia has lately
made us a visit here : This now engrosses our conver-
sation. That great man, wisely considering the delays
necessarily attending negotiations, left the repose he en-
joyed at Leipsic, after a most active campaign, to do
( what would be best done by himself) his business here.
He staid but a few days in town, during which he wait-
ed on his Majesty at St. James's, with whom he had a
long private conference. He lodged at his Minister's
house, never went out but in a chair, was at the play in
league, and sailed from Harwich on Saturday last. Different motives have at different times brought us the Czar of Muscovy, the present Emperor of Germany, and our late royal Guest: In the first was ambition; in the second pleasure: and in the last, Zeal for the liberties of Europe."
