ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP)--Gen. Anton Denikine, 76, former Imperial Russian army officer who later led White Russian forces in a futile three-year struggle against the Bolsheviks, died of a heart attack Thursday night in the University of Michigan hospital.
He was taken ill ten days ago while visiting with his wife, Xenia, at the summer home of a friend, Hilarion Bibicoff, who lives at nearby Dexter.
Exiled from his native land since 1920, when he fled to Istanbul after defeat of his White forces, Gen. Denikine found refuge in France, where he lived until coming to the United States slightly more than a year ago.
His body will remain in American soil. Funeral services were set for today, with burial at Evergreen cemetery in Detroit.
