SIR,
In your paper of yesterday morning you have unwarrantably suffered the publication of the following paragraph:
"The passengers on board the ship Ambition, lately arrived from Cherburg, are not a little surprised to hear that they were mentioned in the New-York Gazette as having reported some news from France. They can assure the public that they never had any conversation upon the politics of France, either on board or after their arrival in this city."
It is necessary for me here to state, and which I can prove, that the death of Chappe and the Imperial decree declaring the marriage of Jerome Bonaparte null and void, was handed to me in manuscript by one of the passengers in the Ambition for publication. What follows, relative to the unpopularity of Bonaparte in France, I had verbally from one of them, which was declared to me in the presence of Captain Skinner on board the Ambition. Yours, &c.
JOHN LANG.
