Melancholy Occurrence. - On Saturday last, Mr. Joseph White and a lady, who resided on the Coosa and Talapoosa rivers, about half a mile from the Indian line, in this county, were inhumanly murdered, it is supposed, by the Indians. It appears that about ten o'clock on Saturday night last, a number of Indians, or other persons, yet uncertain, entered the house of Mr. White and inflicted on him ten or twelve wounds, apparently with a tomahawk; and after murdering him, they set fire to the house, in which a lady who had been acting as house-keeper for Mr. White perished. On making their escape, they fired a rifle ball into the house of Mr. Spriggins, a neighbour of Mr. W. and shot him in the mouth. -- There appears to be something mysterious relative to this transaction: we will consequently forbear making any further remarks for the present. There is a company of 16 men started in pursuit of them; and we hope the persons, whoever they may be who could be guilty of so atrocious an act of violence may be apprehended and brought to justice. -- [Montgomery Ala. paper.
