A telegraphic statement of the arrest and robbery of A. B. S. Craft, of Virginia, was published a few days since. New York Sun states that Mr. Craft became intimate with one Agnes, who had been blackmailed by her and together, and that to save himself from prosecution he had contracted to pay a certain sum annually to be released. That Agnes afterward went to his home in Virginia, stole the contract, and brought to New York, whence she wrote to him to come at once to see her. He had no sooner arrived there than he was arrested by Deputy Sheriff William Conklin, in the Alderman's house, on a suit for seduction instituted by the younger woman. The deputy sheriff took him before Justice Judson at the sheriff's office, and he was there held to give $1000 bail to appear when called to answer the charge. He had four certificates of $5000 each. One of them endorsed and deposited with Mr. [?] as security. With the deputy sheriffs Mr. Craft then went to Belouopico's, where he became very intoxicated. The bar-tender hearing he had $15,000 worth of certificates had waited. [?] sent watch in the police station in the morning he missed his certificates. The pair (Conklin and Lyons) were found last seen in Craft's company. Alderman [?] discharged the Court on the tie of drunkenness and discharged. Craft's missing with Detective Sampson, of [?], who at once stopped payment of the state at the sub-treasury. On Monday, Mr. Craft, having procured the required amount of bail ($1000), went to the Fire Department and released the certificate he had left on deposit there. On the same day one of the gold certificates was stopped at the sub-treasury, and by Detective Sampson sent to the Ninth National Bank, then to the Union Dime Savings Bank, and finally to Thomas E. Smith, who sold it also at Canal and Laight streets, who gave such an unsatisfactory account of how it came into his hands that he was arrested and held bail in $1000. Deputy Sheriffs Conklin and Lyons were arrested on Thursday on the charge of grand larceny, and committed to the Tombs in default of bail. Conklin and Lyons are not regular officers at the sheriff's office, having been employed by [?] as substitutes. Mr. Craft, who makes the grave complaint against the sheriff's officers, is one of the wealthiest planters in Virginia. A year ago he became the owner of ex-Governor Henry A. Wise's residence and plantation at Rolles Bon, Princess Anne county.
