Full Text

The Legislature of this Commonwealth closed their session on Saturday evening last. During the whole time, there was not the slightest expression of party feeling in either branch. There were several animated debates. but nothing personal or unpleasant, as sometimes occurs, was discovered. The subject of the Collegiate Institution at Amherst, was discussed with much earnestness for three days, and then referred to a committee, which is to sit during the recess, This, perhaps, after all, is the best course, for many things which now depend on contradictory assertions, will be settled by the careful report of such a Court of Inquiry. This inquisition will no doubt be made in a spirit of truth and candor, and the Legislature will not wish to go behind the record, and it will be easy for any one, on such a document before him, to make up his mind with promptitude and decision.

The general electoral ticket has been carried by a majority of fifty-five in the House, and by a majority of one in the Senate. There was no political necessity for altering the course pursued in 1820. The votes would probably have been the same in all the districts, and consistency and principle would have been strictly preserved.
