Catholic Council To Sponsor Little Theater Club Play

Putnam Presentation of Comedy, "The Youngest," to Be Given By Trajesters Under Auspices Of Women's Group.-Favorable Welfare Reports Read at Meeting.

The Putnam presentation of Philip Barry's comedy, "The Youngest," now under rehearsal by The Trajesters, a Putnam-Webster Little Theater group, will be sponsored by the Putnam Council of Catholic Women, it was voted Monday night at the regular monthly meeting of the welfare club.

Mrs. Stett Macdonald, chairman of the council, read the invitation from the Little Theater Club secretary, and endorsed the project. Members of the council, including Mrs. Angela Vaughn, Mrs. Ferdinand Gagnon, Mrs. Peter Belair and Miss B. C. Joy, spoke highly of the move and decided that the proceeds would enable them to continue their welfare work and at the same time would give the people of Putnam an opportunity to see a worthwhile play.

Russell Sherman, Miss Dorothy Woodis, Clinton B. Adams and Arthur P. Bove are the Putnam members of The Trajesters. D. C. Baker, of Boston and Webster, the director, and a number of persons, prominent across Webster footlights, are associated with the group. The date of the Putnam performance of "The Youngest," a play which was voted one of the ten best a few years ago, has not been definitely set, but it was decided to present the comedy-drama at the Bradley Theater.

Reports read at the February meeting Monday evening indicated that there had been no lull in the welfare program of the Catholic Women's Council. During the past month, pastry, donated by Mrs. Page of Arthur's Bake Shop, had been furnished 137 families; 16 pairs of shoes had been distributed; milk for small children in seven families had been furnished, and nine families had been provided with necessary groceries.

Following the business session a social hour was enjoyed. Refreshments, donated by members of the council, and consisting of various kinds of sandwiches, home made cookies and doughnuts and coffee, were served. A record attendance of 68 was present at the meeting.

At whist, which followed, Mrs. John Duffy of Providence street was first prize winner. Second prize was awarded to Mrs. George Dion of Church street, and the consolation to Mrs. James Shea of School street. The three prizes were donated by a member of the council.
