Arctic Expeditions. There have been three Expeditions from this country to the Northern regions, in consequence of the failure of Sir John Franklin to return from his exploring expedition. The first was the Grinnell Expedition, which left New York in May 1850, and returned in Oct. 1851. The next was the Kane Expedition, which left New York May 31, 1853. As that did not return, a Relief Expedition sailed June 5, 1855, to search for Dr. Kane's party. They were found in August at Disco island, and both parties arrived at New York on the 11th of Oct. Congress had appropriated $150,000 to assist this last expedition in their search.
