Full Text

The injunction or restraining order issued by Judge Goff has created a sensation all over the Union, and the prominent dailies are filled with editorials questioning Judge Goff's right in the premises. They regard the interference as dangerous to "States' Rights" doctrine, and some of them claim that if he persists in his course he will precipitate civil war.

Governor Evans is going right along with his duties and the State constables are seizing liquors just as if no order had been signed. Just how it will terminate is hard to foresee, but one thing is certain, that the people of this State intend to have a constitutional convention and that the white people intend to control it.

Another thing is certain, and that is the white men of South Carolina will have to lay aside petty spite and go earnestly to work to make the convention a success.
