HAS PROVEN A BIG SUCCESS

Army Camp That Used Treatment at Camp Grant Leads All Ordinary Army Camps of Country.

ROCKFORD, Ill. Medical officers at the cantonment near here said yesterday that in their opinion the reason the local camp has led all national army cantonments in a low death rate from pneumonia is that a new serum treatment for the disease has been employed here. The serum, it was said, is produced at the University of Chicago.

Since the base hospital opened there have been only thirteen fatalities out of 170 cases of lobar pneumonia, a mortality of less than 8 per cent. In civil communities the mortality of lobar pneumonia is said to run from 40 to 50 per cent.
